Feeding Your Golden Retriever

You may be used to or prefer feeding your golden retriever with commercial dog foods. However, there is one ideal way of feeding your dog. This is known as the combination approach. Simply, the combination approach is about feeding your dog with commercial foods and human foods as well.

Although most commercial foods are good for your dog, they still are short of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients that fresh foods have. Your vet will definitely recommend that you feed your dog with fresh foods; just don’t overdo it. Golden retrievers love fresh foods and they can smell it even if it’s a mile away. If it smells good to them, they’d definitely want it.

Even though most commercial dog foods are great sources of proteins and vitamins for your golden retriever, fresh foods provide more essential nutrients. For example, chicken and other meats contain far more protein and minerals than any other type of commercial dog foods.

Another great fresh food for your dog is fish—it contains a lot of protein and essential fatty acids necessary for your dog to have a healthy brain. Golden Retrievers in general are healthy and can stay healthy for a long time, but they still need all the minerals they can get.

Feeding Golden Retriever

Just like any other individual, they will not like it if you keep on feeding them with the same food again and again. Golden retrievers also go for variety. They can also get sick of a particular food if they eat it daily. Hence you should provide your dog with a variety of foods to keep its appetite.

You should give your dog a little bit of everything so it can get all the nutrients it needs from its diet. Keep in mind that when you formulate a diet for your growing golden retriever, you should ensure that animal protein is present in its diet. Animal protein is important for golden retrievers. Without it, your dog won’t be able to keep a healthy mind and body.

Quality nutrition is the key to keeping your golden retriever healthy. However, you should not allow your dog to eat more than enough because eating too much can make it overweight. For your dog to maintain a healthy weight, you should keep an eye on its diet and be conscious of the foods you give. This may not be easy though, especially if your dog develops allergies to a particular type of food.

For more information regarding your golden retriever’s diet, consult your veterinarian right away. Your vet knows which fresh foods and commercial foods are best for your dog. The nutrient requirements of your dog may be totally different from other dogs. As such, its diet depends on its individual needs. Your dog will grow healthy and full of energy as long as you provide your dog with all the food it needs and keep it on a healthy diet.
