Golden Retriever grooming
Not many people know how important it is to groom a dog, no matter whether he has long or short hair and no matter whether he is an outside or an inside dog. Both of my two Golden Retrievers are dogs with longer hair and they enjoy regular grooming, as Golden Retriever grooming has many benefits and represents an integral part of your pet’s enjoyable life together with the rest of the family members. Would you believe that grooming can represent a very beautiful part of each dog’s life, but only if you do not make it as an interruption for your dog. Surely, it will definitely take you some time and also your effort, but you can be sure that it will pay you off. Since my Delta and Kai (our Golden Retrievers) really enjoy trimming and the rest activities of the grooming process, such as brushing, nail trimming and also bathing, we have already managed to make these necessities for the integral part of their lives. But not just my Goldens, my Beagle too enjoys regular brushing, as this has helped us all to achieve greater bonds.

Do not worry, if your Golden Retrievers will not like brushing at first, as all they need is a little time and plenty of your patience to get used to it and eventually they will definitely appreciate all your affection and attention. It is, however, not so easy to make a puppy enjoy grooming, so you will probably need a bit more patience and positive energy. One of the greatest benefits of Golden Retriever grooming is also the health reason, since you can discover ticks, fleas, lumps and tender areas that need special medical treatment. Golden Retriever grooming, such as trimming, will require a couple of supplies, such as a brush, a comb, a pair of straight-edged scissors and nail-cutters, also a pair of rhinning-scissors. But do not be afraid of having to do all the job at once, as you can do the trimming in a couple of sessions, which will not only be good for you and your patience, but also for your dog’s patience.

Choosing proper supplies for your Golden Retriever brushing is crucial for brushing him properly therefore you will have to use basic slicker brush, as it is really the best for removing the hair, dead hair and the loose undercoat. Regular grooming, such as brushing is also important, if you do not want your dog to shed too much in the spring and fall and it will also help him feel better in the summer season. Golden Retriever grooming also requires trimming excess hair between your dog’s pads and also trimming of the hair on the top of his ears. You must also pay attention of his hair mats, as you must remove them; the same goes with tangles.

Another special grooming process which you must not forget about, is regular nail trimming, which has many benefits, as trimming nails helps him feel greater foot comfort, which also means that your Goldens will be more active. As for bathing, you must know that your Goldens love water, swimming and other water activities, but bathing can represent a trouble at first. You can beat your Golden retriever hesitation with some coaxing; the same did I when my dogs were still young. There are many benefits of bathing, such as that your dog will not smell, you will be able to eliminate ticks and fleas and help him clean bacteria. And above all; bathing, the same as nail trimming, brushing and hair trimming, can bond you even greater.
Golden Retriever temperament
My both Golden retrievers are truly adorable dogs. I can not remember them ever being hostile to any person, a child or other animal and I believe that Golden Retriever temperament is one of the best temperaments you will ever meet with dogs. Not only are these pets extremely intelligent and obedient, but it seems as if my both Goldens would eagerly want to please me and all my family members. Of course, you will see the difference in their energy level, as no dog, even from the same breed, can have the same level of energy, but looking in general they are both very friendly with my kids and other family members, also with our neighbors and people we randomly meet when going out for a walk. When I got my two Golden Retrievers I already knew that this breed would be the best to raise and I it was very true. By the way – the names of my two Goldens are Kai and Delta.

The first one is a male, while the other one is a female. They are both very adaptable and whenever my family and I go on vacation or on a trip, we take them with us. They are so eager to leave that sometimes they almost can not wait our car to start and drive away. I could also say that Golden Retriever temperament is extremely easy to handle, as these dogs are loyal and intelligent and they are easy to be taught any skills. This breed excels at field sports and I believe that Goldens are the best family dogs you could imagine to have. You will hardly see them arguing with other dogs and they will never start a fight; on the contrary, they will rather move away. As Golden Retriever temperament is really amazing, you will get the best dog in a house, if you want a great pet your children will be able to play with and what is more, playing with animals will also help them become more self-confident, sociable and emotionally stable and intelligent.

It is really interesting how these children characteristics are almost the same as if I would be describing my Kai and Delta. They are just the same – extremely intelligent and self-confident dogs and never timid. As they are very active, they need plenty of outdoor activities and regular walks, at least 2 or 3 times a day at the same time. Speaking generally, consistency is welcome also with dogs, not just with children, as your Golden Retriever will therefore have more calmness and balance and will not be nervous.

These kindly creatures are also very trusting and gentle, that is why you certainly will not want to have such pet for a guard dog, although you will hear them barking loud, when they sense danger or a stranger who is moving around your house at night. Golden Retriever temperament is also very vivid, but since they are pleased to obey by nature, you will not have troubles when training them obedience. All in one, if you would like to have very lovable, loyal, sensitive pet with self-confidence which is obedient, kind to children and loves outdoor activities, choose Golden Retrievers, as this breed will never let you down.
Golden retriever facts
Long ago before I actually got my Golden Retriever puppy, I had gathered all available Golden Retriever facts about this breed, because I wanted to be prepared for our new family member and give him the best care he deserved. Not only did I talk to people, mostly my friends who already had this breed, but I also read magazines for dog owners, I also borrowed all available books about this breed and about breeding dogs. I even went to the animal shelter and spend five hours a week with this type of breed, took them for a walk, I also brought all of my family members with me to get to know Golden Retriever thoroughly before we actually got one in our house. Golden Retriever facts that I found while doing my private research on this breed, included not just their origin, but I also found out Golden Retriever information on these topics:
- how long does this breed live
- what his character is
- what type of people personality is the best to get Golden Retrievers
- how big do Golden retrievers get and how long do they live
- why does this breed love to swim

And there are also many other facts which were not written anywhere, but I managed to learn from people that already got goldens. I will cover some of them in this post, while some of them in another one, which will follow soon after this one. Goldens are in the second place of most wanted breeds in the world to have as a pet. I came to many conclusions which I believe are actually common Golden Retriever facts that I think are worth to share with you and to help you in deciding whether a Golden Retriever is really a breed you want to have in your house together with your children and other family members.
There is plenty of Golden Retriever information about their origin and if you did not know it before, this breed originates from England, but the first retrievers came to England from Labradorian Coast and Newfoundland somewhere in the 19th century and there were two types of retrievers described in the literature. The first one was Newfoundland dog (or Labrador), while the other was called St. John’s Labrador or Labrador Spaniel. The word retriever originates from the English word “to retrieve” and it literary means to retrieve animals, like wildfowl and birds which fell into water. Golden Retriever facts which I managed to find in books and other literature covering this breed also show that this type of breed is good for beginners, people whi have never had dogs before.

He loves pools, lakes, the sea and all places where there is water, that is why I have hard time keeping my Golden Retriever away from water. Golden Retriever breed was acknowledged as a breed in England in 1913, when they crossed over a so called Water Spaniel, an Irish Setter, a Bloodhound and a Yellow Labrador. Lord Tweedmouth was the one who created this breed. Golden Retriever’s shoulder height is 56-61 cm in shoulders (22-24 inches) for males and for females 51-56 (22-23 inches).
He has smooth hair with a weather-resistant undercoat, so that he can also swim in the water. The color of his coat is cream or golden, with a small single marking in the chest, which is still allowed. This dog is not given to barking much, that is why so many people love this breed. What is more, his character is sociable, intelligent, he is very self confident and has an extreme memory. He is also sensitive and adapts well to many situations. They live up to 10-13 years, while his life span usually depends on exercise, his genetics, preventive health care and also on nutrition. People who want to have goldens, must also be intelligent, calm, with great sense of humor, very patient, active and they must love outdoor activities.
As far as training is concerned about, you will be very pleased to know these golden retriever facts; this dog learns quickly and once he learns something, he remembers this for the rest of his life. Since these dogs are intelligent and sensitive, you should never treat them harshly. There are still many other facts I want to share with you about Golden Retrievers, so be back in two days, when I’m going to post another article about goldens.
